2016 Summer Camp

This Summer, we have Fun Projects for All Ages!

The Tuxedo Pandas, in the spirit of our Month-Long May Workshop in previous years, are bringing some fun in the sun shop with our newest robot projects! We're looking for kids 12 and up to come in and work with us on our Summer Robot Projects, including a new Mascot and a Steampunk Machine!

Kids, Parents, and Coaches Welcome! Our Summer Shop hours are 4-6PM on Fridays and 1-6PM on Saturdays. Parents and kids are both welcome (though kids under 12 cannot work on the robot with us for safety reasons, as well as the fact that FTC is aimed at Grades 7-12). If your child is here, we'd love to have parent help and mentorship here at the shop, regardless of whether you have engineering experience.

Planning out Butler 2.0

Work on the Steampunk Machine will begin as the Butler nears completion. We're also looking for talented artists, as we're working on some Outreach mats, knick-knacks to hand out at competition, and possibly some merch! Our two big summer robot projects are also going to need a lot of decorating.

Updates:
As of Saturday June 11th, our Butler bot is really coming together! We've got the basics for most of the parts, but we've definitely got a long ways to go! We've got work left on every area - the Drive Train, the Torso, the Head, and of course the mechanisms all need work. However, parts of the frame - the torso to the midsection - are nearly ready to attach, and we've got basic designs for just about the full frame. After that, its on to the various features and, of course, the arms!

Calling all the FIRST teams for help!

The Tuxedo Pandas are proud to publish our Girl Scout program for the Robotics Badge. We have designed and tested programs suitable for Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors.

We would love to cooperate with FIRST teams to help us branch out to Girl Scout Troops all over the United States. If you are interested in hosting your own Robotics Session with your local Girl Scout troop, please contact us. We can provide your team/club/troop with an illustrated 6-page guide to hosting your own robotics badge session, plus many supporting files, and information for ordering your earned badges.

During your session, if you could take a group picture and send it to the Pandas, as well as the number of girls present, we will send you a collage of all the participating teams, with the total number of girl Scouts who were introduce to Robotics, thanks to our collaborated effort, to add to your notebook.

We've designed this challenge for a way to say thank you to the Corporate Research Center for providing our space and for promoting teamwork within the companies. With a small lego robot, teams will be performing a variety of missions all themed around the aspects of the companies in the CRC.

We had a fantastic time at both the Richmond Qualifier and the Richlands Qualifier. Our Richlands Qualifier earned us a spot to the Virginia State FTC Championship, which will be held February 28th in Richmond. Pandas are hard at work, both on robot improvements and driver practice to make this a high-scoring event! Pictured is the Winning Alliance from the Richlands Qualifier: the Techie Tornadoes team 5414 as the Alliance Captain, Evil Purple Sox 8498, and Tuxedo Pandas, 4924.

2013 Block Party- headed to Virginia State!

posted Dec 15, 2013, 6:25 PM by Henry Bass   [ updated Dec 15, 2013, 6:32 PM by Tuxedo Pandas ]

The new year brings a new FTC Challenge: FTC Block Party!  The Tuxedo Pandas are now 10 members strong with 5 girls and 5 boys.  We built a skinny robot as our strategy to allow two robots to hang on the pullup bar simultaneously. We thought the strategy was obvious, but sadly we were the only such team of 43 competitors at the Richmond Regional Qualifier.  Nevertheless, we squeaked into the semifinals, and pulled off a second-place for the Inspire award. That earned us a spot in the state competition!
You can see from the photo that there's room for another one just to the right.  We're 11" wide instead of the maximum allowed 18".
